Introduction
The Department of Education was established in 1950, which was elevated to the Institute of Education and Research (IER).
The IER provides B.Ed. and M.Ed. training to, prospective and in-service teachers of secondary and higher secondary schools. At B.Ed. level, both theoretical and practical training are imparted, whereas the M.Ed trainees are theoretically strengthened regarding pertinent teaching issues. The training duration for both B.Ed and M.Ed is one academic year.
Institute of Education & Research has all the necessary facilities of a teacher training institution. It has a spacious and well-stocked library, science and computer laboratories, seminar rooms, and lecture halls. Moreover, all necessary efforts are made to ensure that the trainees’ stay is comfortable and productive environment is maintained.

- Advancing the cause of education, with main stress on teacher education.
- Development of modern teaching skills and techniques.
- Development of strategies to replace the conventional system of education based on rote learning and cramming with one that leads to creativity and originality of ideas and thoughts.
- Development of a culture of research and investigation in an educational setting.
- Producing skilled and well equipped teachers.
