Introduction
The Department of Social Work was established in 1976. It offers a two year Master Programme. The department started semester system. In 1982-83, it was expanded and introduced two more disciplines, i.e. Anthropology and Sociology. The department was renamed as Department of Social Work, Anthropology and Sociology. In 1994, the department was bifurcated into the Department of Social Work and the Department of Sociology & Anthropology. The Department of Social Work had developed International Academic Links which with:
1. School of Social Work, University of Pennsylvania, U.S.A. in 1989.
2. School of Social Work and Community Development, Gherad Mercator University, Duisberg, Germany, from 1997-1999.
3. Department of Gender Studies, Hull University, U.K in collaboration with Women Studies Centre, University of Peshawar, 2000-2003.
4. Department of Social Work, Strathclyde University, Scotland, 2003.
These linkages provided oppotuniities for the faculty members and M.Phil/Ph.D research scholars to learn and share their experiences for professional growth.
The department of Social Work has worked on different research projects with national and international agencies like, UNICEF, UNESCO, WHO, ILO, WWF, JICA, and Health Net International, U.K.
The department provides internship opportunity to the students to work with different organizations of great repute.

M.A (Previous)
(Paper-I) Social Case Work
The subject of social case work is a basic method of Social Work carries following objectives for the students.
1. To help the students to internalize the basic concept of Social Case Work and use the knowledge and the basic concepts of Social Work and the general principles of practice while dealing with individuals in the society for the solution of their problems.
(Paper-II) Social Group Work
The subject of social group work is a basic method of Social Work carries following objectives for the students.
1. To help the students to internalize the basic concept of Social Group Work and use the knowledge in directing the dynamics of group life, worker group relationship and overall group interactions.
2. To help the students understanding the techniques and skill for meeting individual and group needs and apply their knowledge in real group situations doing their fieldwork.
(Paper-III)Community Organization & Development
1. This course is aimed at helping the students to analyze the socio-economic and cultural setup of the community critically.
2. To help the students to develop the ability to identify problem areas and identify work approaches best suited to local conditions.

To help students to understand the multiple causes of the social problems of the society and possible ways to solve these problems.

To impart the knowledge of various developmental approaches to rural areas in Pakistan and to understand the trend and issues of local government system.
(Paper-V) Field Work
1. The students of Social Work need to gain not only theoretical professional knowledge but also develop certain skills and attitudes appropriate to the practices of Social Work. Field work instruction is a basic medium through which the conceptual grasp of student is strengthened and the skills and attitudes for the practice are developed.
English Functional (Extra)

The purpose of this course is to impart necessary knowledge and training (both grammatical and pronunciation) to the students in terms of improving their spoken and writing skills.
M.A (Final)
(Paper-VI) Social Research Methodology
The course elaborates knowledge about social research, its scope, nature and importance and conduction of research specially with reference to social work practice.

1. To understand labour policies of the Government.

The course will help the students understand the Islamic concept of social welfare and the historical development of social welfare in Pakistan and in the sub-continent. The course will also help the students to understand the modern concept of social work.
(Vii c) Human Growth & Behavior
1. To give the students background knowledge about human behavior & the bio-psycho social dynamics which are influencing it.
2. To give insight about the concept of normal and abnormal human development.

1. To help students to understand the dynamic origins and causes of various crimes.

To impart knowledge about the problems of aged and to know about the welfare services for them and the role of social workers in the field of aging.
(Viii c) Social institution and social system of Pakistani society
To help the students to understand the society, role of various social institution, and important sociological concepts.

1. To enable students to understand the nature and extend of the problem of disability.
2. To import knowledge about methods, programs and services regarding disability and rehabilitation of the disabled in their communities.

(IX a) Social Policy and Welfare planning
1. To acquaint the students with the concept of social policy and welfare planning.
2. To familiarize them with the governments developmental plans.

(IX b) Medical and psychiatric social work
To impart knowledge among the students regarding the scope, nature and need of medical and psychiatric social work IX.
(IX c) Demography and population welfare
To help the students to understand te importance of population studies, demography as a subject, and the various population problems in the country..
(IX d) Drugs and Drug abuse in Pakistan
The course is designed to help the students to understand the nature and extend of the problems of drugs and drug abuse in Pakistan and the role of social worker in the retaliation of drug addicts.
(Paper-X) Field Work / Internship
1. Beside theoretical knowledge, the students are sent in the field to develop certain skills and attitude regarding the practice of social work.
2. The students are sent to various agencies / organization for internship and after the completion of their internship, they have to submit their final report.
(Paper-XI) Research Practicum / Dissertation
Thesis/Dissertation is the requirement of Master Degree in Social Work. All the students of MA Social Work are required to conduct the research thesis on the topic approved by the department.
